Uses of Defensive Driving Road ragging and accidents are becoming common daily. The accidents caused by road rages and careless driving are in most cases fatal or creates serious injury. When a driver loses control of the car due to some influence either in himself or caused by other drivers on the road it results in a very bad accident. This is termed as offensive driving.Defensive driving course makes the driver understand the art of good driving. Good driving is nothing but understanding one’s self driving skills and enhancing it with the knowledge of anticipating how other drivers may react in an undesired way while driving. In simpler words expecting the unexpected. Example you think the driver in front is going to go straight but he turns sharply without any indication. Anticipating these kind of maneuvers is taught in the defensive driving course. The reasons for driver becoming aggressive can be two one may be under any alcohol influence or two may be due to anger. This kind of attitude of drivers determines the fate of the accident. So before driving the car one should not be under the influence of alcohol or any drowsy drugs. The defensive driving course dictates the driver to control their anger before starting to drive. If you feel anger and disturbed by something it is better that you stop the car and wait till you settle down and then start driving the car. Anger management courses are also conducted as part of good driving skills program. Driving under the influence of alcohol is against the law and one can be condemned by the Court for such kind of act. So avoid driving after consuming drugs and alcohol. Defensive driving is not the matter of driving too slowly. The defensive driving course instructs the drivers to keep up with the pace of the traffic around them. You should always be driving at the pace of the other drivers around you since if you drive fast it distracts them or even if you drive too slow than them it distracts people following you. So chances of overtaking you and meeting with accidents or tailgate crashing are more. So always run along the speed of the traffic. Never take the driver driving in front of you for granted. The other driver may fool you by turning suddenly or braking suddenly. Always have an view that other person is going to commit a mistake and plan for the action plan before the mistake happens. This will enable you to take evasive action when required. The beauty of the brain is that it remembers things which are said repeatedly. So if you keep on instructing your brain to take evasive action, when the incident really occurs the sub conscious mind will do the task for you. This is called training your sub conscious mind to be conscious. These are some of the training given in the defensive driving course to avoid accidents and become a very good and smart driver. |
